Charleston Earrings (Amazonite)
The Charleston is a dance with an irresistible rhythm that instantly evokes images of the roaring 20’s. It was danced by people in all walks of life, and became a symbol of the freewheeling flapper who rejected social constraints to pursue adventure, excitement and happiness.
Like the Charleston itself, these fashionable earrings add charisma to any outfit. The lack of a metal backing on these earrings defies inlay norms. The sterling silver frame simultaneously protects the stone while letting light through, highlighting the Amazonite’s natural features.
Amazonite is a beautiful stone with natural green and white banding. It has been used in jewellery for thousands of years, and graced the arms and necks of royalty. Amazonite jewellery has been found in the tombs of Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs, including the tomb of, arguably, the most famous Pharoah, King Tutankhamon.
Amazonite is a Feldspar, and sits at a 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. Which means, that while it is a relatively durable stone, it should be worn in earrings and necklaces to avoid accidental collisions with hard surfaces. Feldspars are the most common material in the Earth’s crust, but Amazonite is a very rare variety of feldspar.
It is said to be the stone of courage, truth, and friendship.
Leverback earwires are solid sterling silver.
Long Rectangles measure: 26mm long x 7.5mm wide x 3mm thick
Each earring weighs approx. 2.5 grams.
The stones in these earrings have been treated with a colourless resin as part of the inlay process. This increases the durability of the stones.
